Getting Green Done: Electrical Engineering Technology

This is the first in a series of blogs focusing on green-collar jobs training programs offered by Ecotech Institute in Aurora, Colorado—the first and only college entirely focused on preparing graduates for careers in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency.

How do we get green done? There is a widening gap between the demand for green jobs and the supply of qualified people ready to fill them. An Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology is one of today’s “hot” (pun definitely intended) green jobs credentials.

On or off the conventional grid, electrical engineering technicians help keep the machines and systems of the green revolution humming.

Electrical engineering technicians help design, develop, test, and/or manufacture electrical and electronic equipment. This specialized technician may work in product evaluation and testing, using measuring and diagnostic devices to adjust, test, and repair equipment.

An Electrical Engineering Technology program might be right for you if you…

  • love to solve technical problems;
  • are curious about how electrical devices work;
  • enjoy working with your hands;
  • are interested in math and science;
  • are interested in how electrical systems or computers work.

Graduates will be prepared to become electrical engineering technicians. Many Ecotech students begin their studies with the more general Electrical Engineering Technology program before choosing to specialize in wind or solar engineering.

He is also a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional, Neighborhood Development (LEED AP ND).
