Found Success as a Wind Energy Executive
"I had some G.I. Bill benefits left over and was looking for a school to go to and Ecotech seemed like the right fit for me. Actually I really wanted to get into wind energy. Coming from Texas, there are wind turbines as far as the eye can see. It seemed like a pretty interesting thing to get involved in. I think I still had a lot of adventure left in me from the military and I thought climbing turbines, working on turbines would be exciting. And Ecotech seemed like the right fit. They're really great for vets, their scholarships for veterans make it easy to get your money to pay for your school. That's why I came to Ecotech.
About the time I was going to graduate from Ecotech, I had three to four job offers from different wind companies. The only reason I hesitated is because it wasn't exactly what I wanted to do.
I actually wanted to be a little bit more on the business side of wind technology versus getting my hands dirty. I didn't want to be a technician; actually wanted to be an executive. So it took me a little longer, it took me six months, but I landed the job that I've always wanted working at Dingo Energy.
When I actually applied for the job I didn't exactly meet all the qualifications. They required a Master's degree in business and 10 years executive sales, but I actually come from sales background and the reason I believe that I landed a job is because of my Ecotech diploma.
The thing that set me apart from all the other candidates was my technical know-how. They wanted someone who could actually speak to the people we were selling to and speak intelligently, and none of them had the experience I did.
I actually recommend for all my friends to come to Ecotech. Even if you don't pursue a career in renewable energy, the education you're going to gain here, or the experience -- it's going to benefit you in life. It's going to give you confidence. You'll make friends and you will always have that opportunity to go into the field if you like.
I just I have nothing but good things to say about the school and I would recommend it to just about anyone who asked me, yes, absolutely."
