Why Are Veterans Drawn Toward Green Energy Jobs?

Exciting news for veterans interested in renewable energy! A new initiative, Operation Free, is connecting veterans to green energy initiatives across the U.S. Sponsored by the Truman Project for National Security and the Center for National Policy, Operation Free writes, "We recognize that climate change and our dependence on oil are national security threats. We fight on a local, state, and federal level for strong clean energy policies."

On Switchboard, the National Resources Defense Council blog, Pierre Bull outlined why veterans are interested in renewable energy. Bull writes, "Energy independence—especially a reliance on clean, domestic sources of power—is vital for our country's security." He interviewed veterans to find out why they are interested in renewable energy and found that connections from veterans to renewable energy are common.

Finally, on February 26, the Solar Foundation reports that the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources discussed "American Energy Jobs: Opportunities for Veterans"; as a topic of national conversation, veterans seem to find a home with green energy.
